A brighter tomorrow for youth coming out of the darkness.

The mission of The Starr Institute is to educate, engage and empower youth through awareness and prevention resources and to offer transformative skills in a safe space designed to positively develop and instill the confidence necessary for survivors to thrive.

We must protect those who cannot protect themselves, even when the choice is not easy.

engage

We meet youth where they are.  We foster an environment that is fun, culturally relevant and age appropriate.

1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. (d2l.org)

The common age a child enters sex trafficking is 14-16 (sharedhope.org)

Of the roughly 4.8 million sex trafficking victims, 21% are children (fightthenewdrug.org)

empower

While the onus should not be on a child to protect themselves from victimization, we must educate them.  We envision a world where all youth receive the care, support and skills they need to thrive.

Empowerment

We foster an environment where youth can rebuild self-esteem, self-worth, dignity and love of self.

Health

Our programming focuses on healing trauma through emotional, physical and nutritional wellness.

Housing

We’re working towards opening a home where girls who have been trafficked can live safely and process what they’ve experienced.
